It going to be strange leaving this continent and country soon. When i fly out of LA on tuesdaynight, i will have spent 29 days here, was in Canada in 2 provences and the US in 13 states. All i can say is; thanks for having me over North America, I will be back again. But for now i dont have to drink beer from a brown bag anymore!
But first today still a long awaited tour to Napa Valley and Sonoma, worldfamous wine country. Pick up from the hotel at 8 am and at 9 onwards north towars the valleys. Napa has about 300 wineries and covers a surface of 38 x 5 miles and is diveded in 50 wine regions. Beautiful surroundings and a wonderfull sunny day! The busdriver Sylvio knows a lot about wones and talks to us non-stop about them, very educational. Madonna Estate is the first stop, 100% natural organic farming and lots of Lavender on the premises, which can be found back in the wines. Wildgrowing plants inbetween the vines give it special flavours. We taste a few wines and i buy an opener we have not seen before but is very handy. They call it the butlers friend. We continue and drive by 'French Laundry' restaurant with three Michelin stars.. We have lunch in yountville though, burger of course. Oh and chicken wings, American cuisine of course but unfortunately no Michelin star to be seen. We drive by Francis Ford Coppola's wineyard and buy a bottle of Zinfandel at the Sutter Home estate, home also of the white Zinfandel. On to Sonoma to the third winery, the Sebastiani winery, very traditional place and were shown the process, the tanks and barrels and so on. And wine tasting of course. Ozz loved the crackers.
To live here would be an absolute dream, what a place! Nature is stunning and near all these beautiful wines, who could ask for more? The bottle of Zinfandel never made it back to SF, i hope we can be forgiven
For drinking it out of paper cups? Or even from the bottle? On the back we pass San Quentin state prison (deateh row) and sunset is just when we cross the mighty Golden Gate bridge back into SF. We get dropped off at the hotel and chill for a bit.
We decide to go to Chinatown to have some genuine food but the one Ozz picked from Yelp is closed. Luckily we run into two people Ozz knows from the gaming industry (a lot in town now for the convention) and they have a queque number for us for one of the most populair Chinese restaurants there, the R&G lounge. We pnly have to wait 5 minutes instead of an hour and are served some really nice food for a decent price. This place is Michelin guide recommanded. For a last pint to a Corner bar with some French styles and watched some Premier League. Goodnight, wake up call at 3:30, bus leaves 4:45 to Stockton, the train to Bakersville and again bus to Westwood, LA where I will meet Fettouma again (from Flagstaff adventures) to return that jacket and have some LA stories.
