As you exit the station at Cienfuegos you are literally bombarded with people offering you transport and accommodation. In the end we opted for a taxi drive to our casa in a vintage Chevrolet- it was so cool! Our Casa is the most expensive we have stayed in so far and I have to say that, having read the amazing review it was given in the Lonely Planet, I felt a little disappointed on arrival. We were told there would be hammocks (none!) and a swimming pool. Now ...

This place is so beautiful - the lonely planet refers to it as 'a place for which time stood still' and to some degree I would agree with that. Our 3rd destination in Cuba is Santa Clara and boy did we have an adventure getting there. The Viazul bus station in Camaguey is an absolute joke - it won't sell you tickets until the bus arrives but nor will it prioritise in terms of who arrived first. Fortunately for us, whilst we were being told this by a woman with attitude, in Spanish and at double quick time, an Italian guy called Max walked in. As Jackie would say 'our knight had arrived'! With only 2 weeks in Cuba we have had to take a view on how far we are prepared to travel in this period so the furthest we've settled on is Camaguey.
