On sunday morning we took the ferry together with Harry to Puerto la Cruz and from there we got a taxi onwards to Mochima. The ride was about 1 hour along the coast of the lovely Mochima National Park, but in the dark we couldn´t see anything. On the way we saw 4 or 5 accidents along the road. Incredibly many. No problems for us though and after passing Santa Fe were we spent a few nights before going to Isla Margarita we ended up in Mochima at about 7pm sunday night. And we were surprised to see what met us: A tiny coastal village with people walking in the streets and music playing. The small village vibe of south america was back! Found a cheap hostel for the three of us and ate an amazing "aposado del mariscos", a seafood soup for 40 Bs. In other words this was a small, cheap paradise. Met a scubadiver instructor just across the street and we agreed to meet again the following morning and go scuba diving. Very hung over we went to bed early after having a few beers in the street and talking to some locals. Next morning we had an arepa for breakfast. We have just fallen in love with these things here in Venezuela and will miss them a lot whenever we leave. At the diving club we got all the equipment ready and headed out of the Mochima bay to the open sea where the beaches are.
Stopped at the beautiful Playa Blanca to let some people off the boat before continiuing to the divesite that was closeby. Did the dive along the wall of a ocean mountain. A lot of tropical fish, corals and so on. Saw a huge grouper about 70-80 kgs, couple of big murrays. Back at playa blanca we had lunch and an hour rest before going out for our second dive. Jumped off a cliff there at this beautiful coastline before doing our second dive.
This time we started of through a tunnel, very narrow and a little scary to dive through but we were all fine. On the other side was open water, and we only stayed there for one minuted before going back down through the tunnel. we saw so many different fishes besides all the corals, including lionfishes. I almost got hit by an octopus that got scared as I came around a corner, and he let go of serious amounts of inc. After the dive we went back to Mochima, got some more of that asopado and now we felt how tired we were. So much sun, so much partying the weekend before and including the dives. In the evening we sat outside the divingclub, drinking cervezas and talking to some new friends from argentina. They are travelling around selling articrafts and one pair are even travelling in an old car. All the way from Argentina and here to venezuela, and they are planning to go as far as mexico before returning. True vagabonds. We said goodbye to Harry as he left for Cunamá to catch a bus to Caracas. But he soon returned: all the buses were full and now he had to wait till the next day. Being august it is high season here in venezuela and there is people everywhere and places like hostals are more expensive and the buses are full.Tuesday morning Harry was gone and we got a fisherman to take us out to Playa blanca for a day at the beach. Sunset from MochimaDid some snorkeling, taning and reading before the rain commenced and we got an early lift back to Mochima. For some reason, probably too much sun, we were extreemly tired and just spent the night at our hostal, making arepas and playing cards before falling a sleep way too early.
We are waiting for the bus in Mochima.
Right now it´s 3.30pm, we are in an internet café by the bus terminal of Cumaná and the sun is frying outside. This morning we didn´t know what to do so we just took a bus here and was going to see what happenede. Well, what happened is that we bought bus tickets for caracas for tonight and without much to do we are now updating the blog. Perfect thing to do when there is nothing to do!
