We are now in the allegedly most dangerous city in the world, Caracas. Arrived here on a 24 hour bus ride from Santa Elena on friday without power on our cell phone and with way to little cash. After finding a power outlet and calling Enrique, we met a friend of his, Erika, whom we stayed with for the next 2 days. Visited the cable car mountain above the city, seing the city from above and trying loads of local food. On sunday we moved our asses and ate a delicious lunch at Enriques familys appartment in what is the more central part of Caracas and a very safe neighborhood. He has been kind enough to lend us his room for a few days, and we have strolled the downtown of Caracas, applying for a new passport for Eirik, eating cake and sushi, drinking coffee at cafes and even doing some shopping. Tonight, wednesday, we will go to a plaza in the city to watch the semi-finals of the copa america between Venezuela and Paraguay, live on a big screen with thousands of people cheering for the country. If you see the game on TV, look for us in the crowd if they have coverage from downtown Caracas. From tomorrow till sunday we have rented a car and will do a roadtrip of the areas around Caracas for a few days. And for our worried parents we can report that we are only staying in the safe parts of the city and that downtown has proved to be both beautiful and safe. To be continued...
