My joy over not having to take any more long bus journey's soon faded as we found ourselves on a 13 hour bus journey to Melbourne! However, it wasn't too bad! We did actually manage to sleep and they even had enough leg room for Daves long legs (I however being a "shorty", as Dave calls me, have no trouble with this whatsoever!). We arrived early Sunday morning at the bus station and after eventually navigating our way around the trams (we got on the wrong one 3 times!) we made it to our hostel to dump our bags and head off to explore the city. Dave was our guide for the day (armed with the trusty lonely planet guide!), and we wandered around the main areas of the city (the 'Paris End' and Bourke Street) and saw the Rialto Towers, the many gardens and even another Chinatown! Unfortuntely I was feeling unwell and so after a few hours of wandering we went back to the hostel where I slept on the sofa while Dave watched a film! Our hostel was right next to the Botanical Gardens so after a rest we headed out to explore the gardens (possibly the most beautiful we've seen yet) then grabbed some food to cook back at the hostel.
We had a big day on the Monday: Dave had booked us on the famous Neighbours tour! After a lie in, I still wasn't too well but was determined to go so with a dose of asprin in me we headed off to the Neighbours office to catch our tour bus! First stop was the studio and although we weren't allowed in we were allowed around the back where the front of Grease Monkeys is and the garage. We also saw the one and only bus stop they have in neighbours which several characters have been seen at!! Then we got to meet one of the stars, Declan Napier, who very kindly signed a lot of autographs, had a lot of photo's taken and told us about how filming works. We also got to see Susan Kennedy driving back after being on location, along with Zeke!! Next it on to to Erinsborgh High and then finally to the street (acutally called Pin Oak Close... I think!) for lots of cheesy photos in front of the house's, although as people actually live there we weren't allowed in! After a very quick trip back to our hostel to get food and get changed we headed out to the Elephant and Wheelbarrow; an English pub in St Kilda. This was the location of our Neighbours evening... and boy what an evening it was!! It began with a free drink (as all good nights do!) and then we were introduced to Stu Parker (and yes he is as fit as he looks on the TV!! But don't tell Dave!), Delcan Napier again, Hannah Martin (a blast from the past!) and finally the legend that is Dr Karl Kennedy!! Once we'd taken our seats (which happened to be next to a group of girls from Bristol!) the quiz began, however not many people were paying attention to it as the stars were walking around and mingling! First we met Stu who seemed quite drunk! Then it was Hannah Martin for a few photos and finally Dr K himself!! Dave managed to get his CD signed after Dr K came and sat next to him and we got lots of photos (I even got a kiss!!). Being a bit star struck the night continued with a performance from Dr K's band, Waiting Room, who I have to say were awesome! They did a lot of covers, all of which were great, and even a few of their own songs. The night finally finished and exhausted we caught the last tram home.
Our final day in Melbourne was nice and chilled after a busy night and with me being ill. We headed over the Queen Victoria market which is one of the biggest open air markets in Australia, where we finally managed to find a 'nice' boomerang and some original aboriginal artwork, and after some lunch we went back to the hostel where I slept (again!!). After yet another rest I was begining to feel a little better, and so we went back to the bus station to catch another 13 hour overnight bus ride, this time back to Sydney!!
