Vegas Baby! Our hostel acutally turned out to be a motel with some rooms turned into dorm rooms, but it kinda worked and meant we could stay on the Strip for cheap! For our first evening we headed off to see the Freemont Street experience which has the largest TV screen/roof in the world where there is a light show every night! We wandered around and even went into a few of the casinos, though being poor as we are after 5 months on the road there was no gambling! Walking back down the Strip we found the Stratosphere, a huge tower with the tallest theme park in the world on the roof! After a bite to eat we got tickets to go up to the observation deck, however we then had to wait in a queue for an hour for the lift to get up there! It was worth it though, it had great views down the Strip and of the surrounding city.
In typical Vegas style the next day we did....absolutely nothing! We slept, chilled and ate! Come the evening however we put our glad rags on and did "The Strip"! We started off at the Sahara and Circus Circus. From here the casino's and resorts got more and more elaborate and over-the-top (they all try to out-do each other!) as we took in the impressive Palazzo and spectacular Venetian resorts (a very cool casino which is a replica of the Venice Waterways). We decided to treat ourselves to a gondola ride along the indoor waterway (which is lined by shops and restaurants) which came complete with a singing Italian! Carrying on along the Strip was Casino Royale and Las Vegas-Paris (which has a huge Eiffel Tower sticking out the top!). Next stop was Mirage follwed by Caesars Palace where we "dropped a few quarters" in the slots! Then it was onto the Bellagio to watch the Fountains and wander around the conservatory, before heading down the last part of the Strip to New York-New York, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Luxor and finally MGM Grand! Exhausted we jumped on the monorail back to Sahara where we walked the last bit to the hostel, finally arriving back at 2.30 am!
