Road Trip: San Diego to Las Vegas (via Palm Springs!)

From San Diego we had a 2-day road trip across the desert to Vegas (baby!). Once we had left San Diego we headed north back in the general direction of LA before turning and heading east into the desert. We decided to stop off overnight at the somewhat posh desert city of Palm Springs. As this isn't a hostel-type town (its mainly posh spa's and hotels!) we stayed in the first of several motels (Motel6) on this road trip. As we arrived late and left early the next morning we didn't do much there apart from find tea!

The drive the next day took us along part of the historic Route 66, across the desert and into the middle of nowhere! We could have taken the freeways (which would have been considerably faster!) but we like to make things difficult for ourselves and so we took the dusty and dirty (but ultimately much more interesting) roads across miles of desert! The only place we drove through on the way was a very small town called Amboy (it only had a petrol station and a caravan!) but when we stopped we found that everything was closed as a movie was being filmed there! So on we went, eventually reaching the freeway which took us into Nevada and onto our destination - Las Vegas! Having decided against buying a proper raod map, we somehow (miraculously!) managed to navigate our way over, across and through the myriad of freeways, highways and interstates into Vegas and to our accomodation on the Strip - Todd's Hostel!
