Having had enough of the 40C temperatures in Penang we packed up our stuff and headed up into the mountains, or The Cameron Highlands to be precise! After arriving in the small mountain town of Tanah Rata and finding our accomodation, we set off to sample the first of the Highlands specialities: tea! Located nearly 2000 metres above sea level (and at 20C, considerably cooler than the cities!), the Cameron Highlands are famous for two things: tea and strawberries! After a 5km walk down the twisty mountain roads we arrived at the Bharat Tea Plantation, where debs sampled the tea (while i stuck to water!) and we admired the view. Then it was back up the mountain to our hostel!
The next day we set off early on a jungle trek! We first went via a nice waterfall and a watch tower (great views) before heading deeper into the rainforest. Eventually we ended up at a huge golf course and so set off in search of The Cameron Highlands other speciality: strawberries! After much strawberries and icecream and many strawberry smoothies we started out back to the hostel. That evening we chilled in the hostel's jungle bar and sat around the campfire trading travelling stories with other fellow backpackers before heading to bed.
