Deb's Adventures
Sometime during the night it began to rain. When we woke it was still rainy and windy. We figured we were in for a rough boat ride back to Gladstone. This is fortunately ok for the three of us but I imagine most of the rest of the passengers will not be feeling well.
We went to breakfast and then packed our stuff. We had to check out of our room by 10am but the boat did not leave until 2pm. We headed down to the main pavilion to hang out. I needed to catch up on my writing. Lesley found a chase lounge that we pulled to the corner of the awning where we would stay dry and she curled up with a book. Eric decided to go snorkeling one last time and went out for about an hour. He came back and said the water was too murky to see anything but I think he was happy for the exercise. He went off to find a shower and I got caught up on my blogs so they would be easier to post when we got back with in internet range.
We headed to the dining hall for one last Heron Island meal and then walked down to the boat launch. There were 120 of us heading back on the boat today and the seas beyond the reef were looking rough. 80 of the people that were going back today were part of a large group that came in for a two night conference. Most of the people in this group were not friendly and were very selfish and me-me-me oriented. They were already pushing and shoving so they could be first on the boat and the boat had not even arrived in the harbor yet. We were laughing because they have no clue what they are in for.
The boat finally arrived and the 140 people getting off the boat all looked green and were staggering about praising dry land. I felt so bad that this is how they are beginning their Island experience. The large group made fun of them and I thought to myself "that will be you in two hours." We boarded the boat and found a nice spot outside under a roof towards the back. There were only about 10 of us willing to sit outside because it was drizzling and the sea spray would get us every once and a while. Inside was a disaster from the trip over. There was no way I was sitting in there. The poor crew was cleaning and scrubbing but I heard one of them say it was a waste because it would be just as bad again in 45 minutes.
We got underway and Lesley and Eric and I had a blast. The boat was a 170 passenger fast cat and has surfing motion when it hits a wave just right. We were lucky that everyone in our sitting area was feeling good. No sickies around us. Inside it quickly became a disaster again. Every single person got sick. We had a beer and enjoyed the trip in the fresh air and laughed when a big sea spray would hit one of us.
We made it to Gladstone and that mean group that was so anxious to get on the boat was even more anxious to get off. We let them all go first and smiled and asked how their trip was. TeeHee. Anyway we had a four hour drive back To Daphne and Trevor's so we retrieved our luggage and hit the road. Daphne and Trevor were still waiting up for us and made us a huge salad for dinner. We visited for a while and hit the sack.
