Debbi & Phil EuroTrip 2006
hey guys!
we arrived in a sticky hot budapest early friday morning and followed on with our usual tradition of sleeping in the park. the tourists loved us.
we decided to check in to the august hostel early as we badly needed showers we had attracted swarms of flies.
it was difficult to tell the hostel was in deed where the directions told us as there was nothing but a very small sign on the bell to tell you so.
After meeting our host, Tim, who was top and showed us the best places to go we set off sightseeing. we were tired and so managed to reach Buda, but not quite climb the citadel hill. instead we stopped at a park half way up and messed about on the swings! so cultured.
later on we travelled down the river and looked across at parliament. then we visited the matthius church which had a rubbish cafe but amaying views across Pest. after a change of clothes and a quick shower we set off on the advice of our crazy co-host sherman to find the underground clubs of budapest. similar to the hsotel these were not too easy to find. we found one! but didnt stay too long. instead we headed off to party central... cha cha cha cafe bar on a large island in the river.
had a decent night and stumbled home via subways for a good nights kip.
saturday was more of a traditional touristy day as we travelled around the city visiting the biggest sights in our handy lonely planet guide.
we saw some lovely scaffolding on the parliament building, and shopped down tourist central vaci utca.
eventually we made it back to the otherside of the citadel where there was no park to distract us and managed to climb... after a few stops and much moaning this time from phil (he lacks the higham family hockey thighs.) to the top :D the view was pretty good but we were pretty tired and headed back to have a rest and get ready for a big night out.
This time we started at Chachacha's but followed the cool people to the real party place on the island. Just as we were about to leave due to a shocking run of cheese we heard the dulcet tones of the Kaiser Chiefs so thought we'd give them another chance. Nigh on an hour of good music followed, including our request of Mr Brightside, which nobody knew but we enjoyed. Then it was back to dodgy european music (think Yop advert song and "I Like to Move It Move It" of Madagascar fame) but we were satisfied. A good night and very budget as resisted the 24 hour Subway on the way home this time!
