Tried to leave the beautiful beach huts but our chariot never materialized at the appointed time. We waited for an hour and a half before being told that a huge truck was blocking the single-track road back to San Juan. Managed to get a 4x4 some of the way, then trekked for an hour (past the big truck!), then a van drove us to the edge of town for free (they felt sorry for us I think). Quick drink in San Juan, then a taxi to the Costa Rican border. Border was a bit dodgy but eventually we managed to get through and jump onto a bus for San Jose. Arrived at 9 pm. Grabbed another cab to a hostel, passing freaky people on the way......well, it IS Halloween. Wish we'd been able to do our usual dressing up malarkey.
