A day trip to the floating villages not far from Siam Reap by tuk tuk then boat. Incredible to see how so many poor people live here in such squalid conditions. We took in sights including small children wrapped in snakes (for photos and money of course), an alligator enclosure, a floating shop and orphanage. The shop keeper was charging extremely high prices for noodles and rice, playing the 'poor orphans' card, but we didn't fall for it. He was clearly charging us 3 times the Cambodian going rate and cared little for the plight of the children. We took just a few pencils and the children were delighted.
In the evening we took our same driver to Angkor Wat for sunset. The weather is always a gamble, but it was stunning. Our ticket allowed us to arrive back the following morning for sunrise. We spent several hours exploring the vast sites. It was breathtaking! Mum took an elephant ride around one of the temples. Later, mum found the long walks tiring and sat whilst Gen and I explored. Stunning.
