Cambridge is an 800 year old university town, about an hour's train ride north of London. The historic university college buildings certainly dominate the central part of town, particularly King's College, St. Johns's College and Trinity College which are some of the bigger ones that make up the 31 colleges. The colleges provide residential facilities for the students who are then enrolled in different faculties throughout the university. There is a very long and proud history of graduates here.
The town is built around the Cam river, thus the name of the town Cambridge, from the bridge that was built over the river Cam! Tried to encourage Rod to try a bit of punting on the Cam river, but he was worried about falling in, so we ended up being punted up the river by a student instead, who was able to give a good history of the place as well and inform us about various student pranks over the years!
Enjoyed an evensong service at King's College Chapel with the King's College Boys Choir and also an organ recital - wonderful acoustics in the chapel. Quite an experience.
Also, found our way to the nearby Imperial War Museum at Ducksford for a dose of air history, in particular military aircraft. There were a few planes flying on the day - Supermarine Spitfire, Dragon Rapide, Harvard and Tiger Moth particularly got the crowd excited! We found a bar at The Eagle pub in Cambridge which still has signatures burnt by candlelight and cigarette lighters onto the ceiling of the pub by airmen from the 2nd World War. Many of these men of course never returned - a fascinating record!
Hope you are all enjoying the blog.

Kath Rod must of loved those planes. I am enjoying your tales immensely. love you mum.
hilary Any evidence of Rod's nephew being a current student at Trinity College....hope he wasn't the instigator of one of the student pranks. Perhaps he can burn his signature into the pub ceiling!
