After a long windy journey out of the mountains and into the city, we arrived in Wellington! Day and I had stayed in quite a few different hostels to our buddies along the way on the kiwi bus as we found double rooms didn't cost much more than the dorms everyone else was staying in. But as this was our last stop in NZ - and our big farewell to half of Team Doom - we bunked in with everyone in the dorms in Base. We pre drank on the dorm room floor (obvs), then all headed out to Electric Avenue for a massive last night, with $5 drinks all night... danger! We danced all night going particularly mad when Taylor Swift was played, and when we all sang/screamed the goat version (song of the trip so far), the whole place thought we were mental! After staggering home around 5am we said an emotional goodbye to Vicky, Amy, Louise, Annabel and Chris who were leaving an hour later at 6am to get the choppy ferry over to the South island - good effort Team Doom!! The next day was mostly spent in bed, the biggest hangover day yet, but the day after all the remaining Team Doomers, us and Tim and Lizzy, wanted to make the most of the capital so we had a big day out! We walked around the harbour and up to the cable car and took it up to the top of the city. It was 600 metres long, pretty rickety and slowly hauled us up to the top of the botanical gardens. The views were amazing! There was a walk from the top of the city through beautiful gardens, and duck ponds to the bottom into town. We then wandered back along the harbour over to the Te Papa Museum which was huge and packed full of info on volcanos, earthquakes, Maoris, animals and the NZ history. Wellington's got a real buzz about it, and definitely somewhere we could spend more time exploring. After the museum although we were pretty knackered Tim decided to take us on the longest walk ever to an amazing cake shop he had been to the day before. We spent our last eve playing cards with Timotei and Lizzy, then at 3am we were off to the airport to bid farewell to New Zealand. The staff over at Base neglected to let us know that the airport was actually shut until 4am, so after sitting in a carpark for an hour sheltering from the storm outside, checking in and drinking the best hot chocolate EVER, we were on our way. Bye New Zealand, we have had the best 3 weeks, met some amazing people (TEAM DOOM), done things we didn't think were physically possible, been spoilt rotten by our friends (Kristina and Teddy), blown away by your amazing scenery and been told the South Island has even more to offer! Bring it on early next year!

Teddy Sounds like you NEEDED more time in Wellington... by far the best city in NZ! Even I could spend a day wandering around Te Papa! Heading there this weekend, coffee in the cuba mall and several hours of people watching will commence!
