Our Year of Adventure
We shared a taxi back in to Bocas town with Marina and Daniel. They were leaving the Caribbean to make their way towards Santa Catalina on the Pacific coast. We will be doing the same but wanted to have a day at Playa de las Estrellas before we left.
We checked in again at Posada Isla Chica for one more night and managed to get the same room as we had before with the balcony overlooking the street. We dropped our bags in the room, took out our beach gear and headed for the bus stop.
The bus to Bocas del Drago took us up through the centre of the island before veering off to the western coast. Where the road ends, a walking path begins towards the water and a coastal path. Playa de las Estrellas was a 30 minute walk round the coconut tree lined coast. The sand was white, and water shades of blue from turquoise to indigo. The beach gets it's name from the abundance of big starfish.
We spent a few hours lazing on the beach and swimming in the warm water. David went out with his mask and snorkel but there was nothing to see apart from starfish. A local dog decided to join us and used David's jandals as a pillow - two days in a row that a dog has done this!!
In the distance we could see a storm coming so we packed up our stuff and headed back towards the bus stop. We made it within 20m of a shelter before the heavens opened so with a quick dash we stayed relatively dry.
We had dinner at Om Cafe, an Indian restaurant, which was surprisingly good considering there wasn't an Indian in sight, not even in the kitchen.
After dinner we started debating whether to go to Santa Catalina or not. It would need a 5am start in the morning and we would need to make every bus connection to make it worth our while. In the end we decided to go to bed without setting the alarm and just decide in the morning...
