Our Year of Adventure
It was our last day in Granada and we decided to take it easy after the chores of traveler. The laundry was easy enough although David was a bit nervous about taking it on his own. His Spanish hasn't really progressed beyond ordering food and drink. The guy at the lavanderia spoke excellent English and David felt a bit embarresed about getting tongue tried when he tried his Spanish.
Breakfast was at Kathy's Waffle House and Maria tried to make David feel worse by ordering the healthy fruit bowl. David's feeling of embarresment would only be erased by a big plate of huevos rancheros with gallo pinto (basically stir fried rice & beans)...so he said. The cafe had a great view, overlooking the very picturesque Convento San Francisco.
We swapped our books at the Garden Cafe's massive exchange library and headed on to Mombacho Beach Club at Hotel Spa Granada for the afternoon. For the princely sum of 5 USD they allow you to use their pool and bar. Given the heat in Granada, we were sold. The pool was 60 feet long but only 50 feet was usable because 4 resident ducks were completely territorial. Maria first noticed them when laying her towel on a lounger and there was a crescendo of '****** off' duck noises. They were under the lounger and seemed to suggest that we moved to another one. They also chased off more than one person during the afternoon from their end of the pool. Apart from the ducks, it was a very lazy and enjoyable afternoon.
