Our Year of Adventure
It had 'warmed' up overnight, it was only minus 17c when we got up in the morning but that wasn't going to stop us trying out the slopes of Levi. There was a bit of wind as well to make it feel even colder, so wrapping up was job number one. Six pieces of thermal underwear later we had the flexibility and movement of the 'Michelin Man' but snug and warm. The wind and snow was still ferocious but the condition of the pistes were good. The runs could be considered a bit tame compared to Ylläs apart from the World Cup Run - what a surprise!! We were casually carving our way down an easy blue when we came across a bunch of people just staring ahead...and down. We stopped to see what they were looking at - the drop was so steep we could nearly have BASE jumped. It was so icy and steep, David started slipping down the slope because he couldn't even hold an edge while sitting so without a second thought, jumped to his feet and down he went with Maria following closely behind. Maria however decided to try and find some snow at the edge of the piste. She found the snow but not before the ice had her on the seat of her pants. With enough snow being pushed up the back of her jacket to build a decent sized snowman, she bounced back to her feet and continued down to the bottom.
