Our Year of Adventure
We were still in lazy mode and by the time we made it down to breakfast, Andy and Carlee were just coming back from a 2 hour tramp. We checked out our rooms at midday but left our bags in the reception office because our bus from Loja to Piura, in Peru, was not until 11pm.
The afternoon was sunny so we spent it by the pool doing more blogging and sorting out pictures - we were doing so much and taking so many photos in Galápagos that there was so much more to blog about.
We also needed to make preparations for immigration like proof of onward travel and finances. It's really hard to know when you want to leave a country before you've even entered it. It's not like we're going to overstay a 90 day visa either - we've lots to see before Christmas but I guess immigration officials don't know that. The extent of our onward travel was booking a hostel in Trujillo, Peru, so we will need to try to continue our journey from Piura as soon as we arrive.
We had our last dinner at the Hosteria's restaurant before the five of us, including Carlee, Andy and Clara, took a taxi down to the village bus station. There was no bus until 8:45pm despite a few of us having asked about it the day before, there was meant to be one every 15min even on Sunday but they seemed to have changed their minds. In the end, they had to put on an extra bus because there were so many people waiting. Eventually, we were on our way to Loja's Bus Station, 75 minutes away.
We said goodbye to Clara in Loja, she was off to Guayaquil to start her Galapagos adventure. The rest of us boarded the 11pm bus to Piura in Peru. There was a booking mistake with seat numbers and an Israeli girl was in the seat (which pretty much converted to a bed) that was meant to be for the 2nd driver - she was not giving up the seat without a fight, but eventually the driver took it. Another guy jumped off the bus at the last minute saying he forgot his plane ticket. That might sound bizarre but a bus into Peru and then a domestic flight to Lima is way, way cheaper than taking an International flight. The guy took a taxi home, collected his flight ticket and then the taxi chased the bus down so he could get back on.
We managed to sleep relatively well despite the seats being on the small side.
