Our Year of Adventure
Breakfast was served by the wood fire in the hostel. It wasn't actually that cold, but it's really nice to have it lit. We were served fresh fruit, yoghurt, granola, eggs, bread, cheese and jam along with coffee so we were pretty full by the time we finished.
We met Carlee and Andy at Patagonia Experience office as arranged at 10am to take the hire bikes out for the day. They were going to be free because we had booked the volcano climb with them, but the weather was still pretty bad. The route we planned to cycle was all about the scenery, but the clouds were down low over the mountains. The girl in the office then suggested we could go to the hot springs at Menetúe instead, we would get transport and free entry. The hot springs tour was leaving at 11am so we ran back to the hostel to grab our togs and towels, and back to the office again.
As far as hot springs go, we have been to a fair few in a lot of countries so they need to be pretty special for us to think they are really good. Menetue falls into the average category. Their adult pool was closed for maintenance, but they had another two pools indoors of 37c and 40c which were clean and not too busy. There was also an outdoor one, but it was a bit colder. We relaxed in the pools for while and then sat on the deck chairs outside in the sun to eat our packed lunch (that we made for the bike ride). After another quick soak, we changed back into our clothes for a drink on the bar's terrace.
Our pick up arrived at 4.30pm as agreed and drove us back to Pucón in time to pick up the rental car. It wasn't the car we had booked, we were given one with a smaller engine that might struggle on the hills, but it is a bit cheaper.
Before heading off on our road trip, we decided to take it for a test drive to Lago Caburga. The weather was beginning to clear and we did manage to get a half decent photo of the lake.
Back in Pucón, we parked the car up for the night and went for dinner at La Cala, a pizzeria with proper pizza oven. Maria used to go there 7 years ago and the pizzas were good then. They were still good now too. This is another place we could easily come back to.
