We'll travel anywhere to escape Brexit
Through customs very swiftly and hop into a cab for our hotel in District 1; the backpacker area of Pham Ngu Lao. Our hotel Duc Vuong is very nice and we are welcomed with warm smiles then head out for a walkabout to get our bearings.
Although there are motorbikes coming at you from every possible direction the city seems rather serene with it's colonial buildings and green boulevards. We have decided that HCMC sits between Bangkok and Phnom Penh in terms of hustle and bustle. Have a fab foot massage and some Thai food before having a late afternoon nap ( well we have only had about 4hrs sleep in the last 20hrs).
Get over night trains and a trip booked to the Cu Chi tunnels by hotel's travel agent and go in search for some Vietnamese food which turns out to be delicious.
The food and drink is such good value - we have authentic dinner starter and two main courses and two bottles of Saigon Green beer and it comes to about £10.
Head back to the hotel to settle in early ahead of tomorrow's full on day of exploring.
Suzanne's got the Gin, got the tonic and the ice and we swop lemon for lime.
Chink- Cheers one and all.

Kirstin Davis Sounds fabulous, very jealous here in York. Enjoy every minute living reading about your adventures! How does the gin compare to Alex's cocktail!
Gilli Good Morning from glamorous Garforth! Glad you got there safely, and it sounds like you're already setting into the local culture. I like to hear all about the food you're having, because you know I wouldn't be so adventurous with my choices! (You will have to check out the Vietnamese fries for me, lol). Looking forward to reading more about your adventures. It's my last week at work, and my replacement is starting tomorrow so will try to log on when I can. Have an absolutely fabulous time, the pair of you, and speak soon. Lots of love xxxxxxx
Gilli That was supposed to say 'settling'! xx
david142 Hi Gilli, glad you're enjoying the blog so far. Just got back from a monster day of sightseeing and dodging motorbikes.
david142 Glad you're enjoying the blog so far. Just got back from a monster day of sightseeing and dodging motorbikes. No the gin isn't a patch on Alex's lethal cocktails however a bottle of Sigon Green Lager is the cheapest brew and is 12,000 dong a bottle - fortunately you get 35,000 dong to the pound!
Sean and Jo You lucky sods. Enjoy the tunnels, we did them when we were in the 'nam back in '99. Keep drinking the beer, I always find its a safer bet than the water :)
david142 We have found the beer is very good and much safer than the water! Just got back from Cu Chi Tunnels had a blast -literally of M16s and just like the Yanks missed the target. Night train tonight to Nha Trang.
