Left Bilbao this morning and headed off to Zaragoza, Spain's 5th largest city. Wet and windy as we left, but as we came down thru the Pyrenees foothills, the weather cleared to bright and sunny. Marked change to the landscape as we headed east. We travel led along a broad flat valley, hemmed in be rugged escarpments, and low hills covered in vineyards. A day at the museum. The main reason we came to Bilbao - to visit the Guggenheim. The museum is a magnificent piece of architecture. Its a piece of art in itself. Enough said. Spent about 3 hours looking through it. Just as amazing inside as it is outside. Worth coming to Bilbao just for that. Made our way down to Bilbao, Spain this morning (about a 4hour drive). Terrible weather for driving - rain storms all the way down. Every time we passed a truck the road in front of us would disappear under a wash of water. As we got closer to the border the terrain changed as we entered the foothills of the Pyrenees - deep valleys in between towering hills (we would call them mountains in Australia). Arrived in Bordeaux yesterday afternoon after a 4 hour drive from Clermont. Not really sure what to expect from Bordeaux, apart from fine wines that is. We haven't done much research on the area, but it does appear on quite a few travel sites as a place to go. First impression of Bordeaux? Quite a beautiful city. Wide streets, very French architecture, lots of pedestrian boulevards. Not sure how we are going to spend our time here, maybe just get lost wandering ...

Woke this morning to a clear cold day (about 1C). Went into The city area to find somewhere for a spot of breakfast. No such luck. City was dead as a dodo. Everything was closed. The only people who were about were morning joggers. It looked like we would have to go back to the hotel for breakfast. On the way back we happened upon a bakery that was open.
