Today first we're exploring - 3 towns in one day. After a quick breakfast we head off to our first destination, San Gimignano, an historic walled city dating back a thousand years or so (http://www.sangimignano.com/sghomei.ht m ). The drive thru the Tuscan hills is amazing, hills lined with grape vines and olive groves, the leaves on the trees turning gold and brown. Today we leave Viterbo and head for Tuscany and a small town called Certaldo. Wouldn't you know it, first lousy day for weather - cold (4 degrees), overcast, blowing a gale and raining - perfect weather for travelling on unfamiliar roads in a unfamiliar car, ande relying solely on a GPS system to get us there (who said there was no adventure left in the world!!). We came across Viterbo as a place to visit/stay quite by accident. We were looking for a place to stay on our first night in Italy which wasn't too far from Rome. Up up and away - its off to Rome we go!!! Despite all we have heard about EasyJet, the flight is smooth and comfortable. Now for the 3rd hiccup of the day - trying to arrange a rendezvous with the car hire people at Rome Airport. what should have been a 20min wait, turns into a 2 hour wait (more sighs and looks from Navigator Julie). the local agent finally turns up and whisks us off to pick up the car (looks like a 2nd hand car lot when we get there)...

Today we leave Greece. Up early at 6am to head for Athens. We fly out at 11am (with EasyJet, so we are approaching this flight with some trepidation after seeing them featured so much on the British show "Airport" - and not always in a good light!!). But, they are about 1/2 the price of the other airlines. OK, first hiccup of the day - the car is running really rough.
