Woke up to a leisurely start and headed out to see the aerial view of Klagenfurt from the Pyramidenkogel, a 2790 foot mountain with an incredible architectural design near the town of Carinthia. A tower rising 100 meters above the mountaintop, over 30 stories high and after entering we found out the elevator didn't work! We made it up the stairs to the top and the view...took your breath away. Scenic views of the entire Lake Wörthersee; we could see as far as Slovenia in one direction and Italy the other way.
Maybe the best part was Daniel and I sliding down a chute in a gunny sack to the bottom. Exhilarating!
The afternoon was spent hanging with Marian as he showed us more of the sights; we ended at a local restaurant he picked where we met one of the most delightful people ever, Countess Eisenholdzer. Eighty years old but incredibly articulate and multi-lingual (German, Polish, French, some Russian and perfect English!) she was originally from Poland, lived in New York where she taught at Columbia University and met her husband. They lived in South Africa before moving back to Klagenfurt where they own a huge tract of land. We were all apprehensive at first but she was amazingly down to earth and before long we were all laughing, telling jokes and enjoying everything about the evening. We would love to see her again!
As we parted she told us if we are ever in the area again to contact her (with 3 days notice) and we are welcome to stay in her home.
