Dangerous Dave's Daring Deeds
Firstly and of course most importantly, may I just say a mahoosive congratulations to Mr., sorry, Dr. Jonathan Gorvett, who has recently been awarded his PhD. Nice one bruvva, I said NICE ONE BRUVVAAAAAAA. (It only took 5 and a half years....;) Only kidding mate, I'm incredily chuffed for you. I would buy you a drink, but unfortunately I'm on the other side of the world).
As for me. Yes, still here....and now a little further up the coast than we were. I also just uploaded 80 something photos...but then the computer wiped them. Excellent. However, I'm still in a good mood. Despite being fined 225 Australian dollars yesterday for travelling as a passenger without my seatbelt properly afixed. Harsh. But I'm sure some would say fair. Not me. Ah well. Still smiling.
So yeeha, we went to the Blue Mountains, and they were bery pretty yadda yadda ya, the town of Katoomba we stayed in for the night also kindly looked after my camera while I drove back to Sydney. I didn't forget it, honest. So I got a train back again the next day and picked it up, just for you guys - how would you cope with not seeing pictures of me in idyllic locations hey? On the Monday morning Sian, Farida and I went to pick up our trusty steed - this time decorated with the Village People. No, that is not "fitting". But it is pretty cool, and comes with all the mod cons the last one did. From Sydney we headed up to Byron Bay, stopping one night in Coff's Harbour to break the journey...
Byron was an incredibly chilled out and relaxed place, home to some awesome hostels and good waves for learning how to surf. Which I did. Or at least, I tried to...the story is a long one, but I'll keep it short. Ish. Basically, after entering a pub quiz in one of the bars in Byron, we managed, somehow to display some shocking depths of trivia knowledge, and came out winners. How nobody else knew what Luke Skywalker's actor's name was, I will never be able to fathom. So we were the lucky winners of two trips to Nimbin, one surfing lesson, one dolphin-kayaking lesson and $180. Not too bad for a night out. Dolphin-kayaking isn't kayaking on the back of dolphins....rather it's kayaking out to see them, which Sian chose to do. Friday and I ended up with the trips to
Nimbin and I took the surfing lesson - (yeah, I know...I got two...bonus!).
For those of you who know not, Nimbin is THE hippy town of Australia, and proud hosts of Mardi Grass each year, where they attempt to extoll the virtues of legalising marijuana. Surprisingly, our guide was a thoroughbred hippy, as was the owner of the botanical gardens we visited, and as were the inhabitants of the town - people on the streets ranging from kids in Ferrari jackets to 60 year old women sitting in deck chairs all offering to sell you some form of cannabis. The police apparently turn a blind eye. It was an experience anyway, and some of the shop names etc. were pretty amusing. As you'll see when I get the photos up.
The surfing lesson was also awesome, and when we travelled further up the coast to Noosa, Farida and I hired a couple of boards and I attempted to pass on my new skills. She is now better than me. Anywho, I'm afraid I'm going to have to leave you now and update again in a few days....
Hope you are all well and happy... xxxx
