Two weeks since I last wrote and so much to say, we've been on the go all the time with no rest (no sympathy required). Arrived in Bangkok and managed to find Ben and avoid a scam taxi to the city, had to navigate though as the driver was probably some farmer trying to make an extra few bob. Eventually got to a guest house and stayed for three nights enjoying what Bangkok had to offer. That is scams, western bars and tuk, tuks. But if you burrow deeper it really is an amazing place and we saw parts of that most people don't see, we did go and see the palace which is stunning mosiac, incredible. Managed to meet up with my friend Dave from Bristol and indulge in the odd beverage too. It was then North and the start of our big circuit of south east asia. We headed to the myanmar border, stopping off at old ruins and a town where the resident monkeys run the place. They swing on eletric cables, poo on cars and generally cause mayhem, the stole my cuddle maggot from my bag and pulled Bens Hair from his head! We popped over the border at Mae Sot for a day in Burma where everyone carries things on their heads. The adventure really began though with a 5hr ride in what can only be described as a old open back van with two rows of seats that should fit maybe 10 people but we somehow ended up with 23! Some on the floor, 4 hanging off the back and the rest like sardines on the sits for 5hrs! It was great though and the scenary beautiful and everyone waved to you as a whity round here is quite uncommon. 3 days trekking, rafting and elephant riding was the next adventure, It was amazing, probalby the best thing I will do on this trip. The guide was ace and really made the trip great, we also stayed a night at a remote hill tribe and drank lots of homemade rice whiskey-its rude to refuse...! We continued north toward Chianf Mai where we arrived yesterday, stopping at little towns along the border and enjoying the thrill of sitting on top of the Saeng Thaew with no western safety concerns! The plan is to head Norht East to Laos and then Vietnam but who knows what will happen, I am just enjoying proper toilets and moscito free nights-which reminds me I hope maleria tablets work....even with covering up and spray we got so badly eaten I think my feet are still growing. Could write more but that is plenty lots of love dave xxxxxx
