It's a bit of a cheat this blog, i'm down under, Australia, but in transit to Auckland on a delay. Sad to leave Asia but really looking forward to NZ. My one night in Bangkok did turn out to be eventful, well i didn't expect anything else, Khao San road really is a party street, i arrived at 05.30 and there was still enough of a crowd generating some noise.
I was surprised, there was not a lot of rooms available, i tried about 5-6 places, through recommendations, some were full, others expensive at 600 baht and grotty. I was tired and settled for D & D on the road, 550 baht with breaky thrown in, turned out to be a great place, even if it was for one night only. As it was approaching 08.00 i decided to avoid sleeping, take two large coffees and explore. I got on the riverboat and headed for the Siam centre, the boat is easy and cheap at 14 baht, it only takes 15 minutes. The skytrain was really efficient, clean and easy, again cheap at 30 baht. The Siam centre is mighty impressive, like a mall from the states and would put a lot of uk shopping centres to shame. I had a good look round and had a fantastic Japanese meal, sushi, sashami, the works for about 5 euro. To chill i caught a film in the cinema and then headed back to the 'road' for a beer, catch the market and do some people watching, always a great experience. i must say the market has some great stuff and really cheap.
The night time i just had a wander and found some good street food and got chatting to an Italian fella who gave me the low down on where to go. I headed for the centre point bar, a rooftop bar with a brilliant live band, it was in full swing by the time i arrived and lots of action. Got talking to an Aussie fella, had a good few beers, there was a bit of a 'kick off' as some crazy South African just decided to p-ss in the middle of the bar, he was hammered and i got a bit of a soaking, the bouncers soon sorted him out. Over the road we shot some pool and sunk some more beer, another good night. Next day met up with Jeremy (met yesterday morning at accom check in) for breaky, a Swiss guy, half Indian, funny mix but a great guy and we shared a taxi to the airport.
That's it in a nutshell, a quick note to kill some time. Shame i didn't have more time in Bangkok, it's 20 years since i was last here and boy has it changed, well in looks and technology, certainly not in terms of fun and crazyness. it will always reamain one of those magical city's, one that never sleeps and always has a story to tell.
Can't beleive it's xmas eve!, wow, where did those 6 weeks in Asia go?, well as they say 'time fly's when your having fun"
