Mekong Delta...
we decided to take a day trip from Saigon down to see the delta. this was far the easiest thing to do and probablys cheaper. if we had done it on our own we would have probably stayed 3days and wasted them!
the trip included seeing the floating market, which was not exactly what i thought it would be like. which was a little bit dissapointing but we could have just seen an ok one instead of the better ones in other places. but it was still good, the market consisted of large-ish boats laden with whatever they sell... and they advertise their product by putting it on a large flag pole thing.
after the floating market we went to an island in the middle of the upper mekong river. here we saw how they produced various local things. including coconut sweets (without sugar!), rice paper and rice crispies (not snap crackle and pop!!). this was pretty good as they gave us free samples and they were all very nice!
after that it was lunch time.. so we made our way across the delta to a small village well 2-3 houses for lunch. the free luch which they put on was amazing! however they kept talking about this elephant fish which is only found there. it was quite expensive so me and jo didnt bother getting one. however a couple on our table got one and we ended up charing theres, but they insisted on paying for it.. BARGIN!
after lunch we had a hour or so on bycles around the restaurant.. then we got a boat trip down the canals on traditional boats. that was about it for the day, how ever we went over a big bridge called the friendship bridge and we then stopped off at a garden.. all in all i good day!
