Fraser Island... [Third attempt due to crappy connections]
First of all sorry its been a long time since my last blog we have been 'island hopping' and the internet has been scarse. finally had time to get at least one blog in.
So fraser island...in a word beautiful! One of the most natutral places ive been with untouched rainforest, crystal clear lakes and miles of beach!! We were put in a group of 10 and given a 4x4 to explore the island as we wished. It was good to spend 3 days with the same group of people as we got to know all of them very well. so what did we do?
1st May;
Twas an early start for us in order to get packed up and to the ferry in time. So we loaded our kit.. Tents, bbq, food, sleeping bags.. our personal kit etc... And set off for the ferry. The ferry crossing gave us great views of the west coast of the island. we landed, let the tyres on the 4x4 down (improve traction on the sand) and set off in exploration. Driving down the narrow 4x4 tracks was intresting to say the least . but i was gutted i wasnt allowed to drive, why wasnt i born 2 years ago.... But anyways we made our way to a place called central station, despite the name theres no railway. anyways we got out and had a lovely little walk through the forest to the invisble creek. Give this name as its so clear u dont think theres any water in it! After that we got back in the 4x4 and made our way across to lake birrabeen. Due to the fact there are tiger sharks breeding off the east coast of fraser we were told to swim in the lake. so wen we got there we went for a swim. it was lovely the water was so pure. It was actually weird swimming in water that didnt smell of chlorine or salt! And as u can see from the pictures the lake's surroundings where breathtaking. Afterwards, our proposed itenery said a blast up the highway (the beach) to the maheno shipwreck. We decided to follow as advised. After we set up camp just to the north of the wreck just off the beach. We had a bbq and played drink games and as from the pics had some awesome view od the moon at dusk.
2nd....
We blasted up the beach as far as we could go to a place called indian head, which is where the tiger shark actually breeds. We didnt see any sharks but saw a dolphin swimming about on its own. Then a half hour walk north of indian is the champagne pools. Given the name as the sea is suppose to come over the top of the rocks and make the water fizz like champagne. So we walked up to have a look. However the sea was no way rough enough so they were actually a bit pants but we dossed in the pools for bit. next we were supposed to go to another lake but time had run out on us so we decided just to set up camp for the night. Again we enjoyed a bbq and drank the night away as the night before. However late in to the evening some guys who had been talking to 2 fishermen on the beach ran up to our camp and shouted "they've caught a shark". ive never seen every1 move that quickly! we all wanted to see. luckly we got there in time to see them bring it in.
3rd May...
Got up and headed across to lake wabby. This lake is special because it is slowly being engulfed by a hugh sand dune. hence there is a steep incline if sand to the waters edge. we spent most of our time there throwing ourselves down it into the lake, great fun till u realise u gotta walk back up!!! lol. then we went across to the best lake on the island lake mckenzie. this was the most beautiful lake ive ever seen. it was so clear with white sandy beaches wish we had longer than half an hour there. But we had to get back.
So thats what we did on fraser. Throughly enjoyed every min wana go back!!
