Coral Bay update When we'd got to Coral Bay Peoples Park, having been told everything was full. The kind lady at the reception said she could probably squeeze us in on a pitch at the top of the site, but we could look at it first to make sure we could get on it OK. Minilya Roadhouse actually turned out OK except for the power generator going all night. The showers and loos were basic but worked really well, and being the only ones there meant it was easy to get to use it. Also they had a really helpful chap called Drew from Sydney who stapled up our broken back bed, and did a temporary fix on our broken water pipe so that at least it works for the moment. Today was our first real experience of long distance (360+ kilometres) on true Aussie dirt roads. From the moment of leaving the strange brand new, yet virtually deserted campsite at Gascoyne Junction we drove on dirt roads for the next six hours. A day trip into the gorges and a few short walks mean a leisurely start. The first sight of the Gascoyne river is another oasis out the blue. Plenty of birdlife including many white cockatoos and black swans. Again no-one on the road and an impromptu stop for a photo of the range sees us parked about 100m from a kangaroo carcass being fought over by 3 very large kites.
