So we arrived in Athens yesterday, greeted by cockroaches and the smell of pee. The road we were on looked grim, but then we saw our hotel. SWEET! They hooked us up with the nice room in this super renovated, spirally staircased hotel. We met some Germans with metallica shirt, and we later found out that metallica and black sabbath are playing here within the next couple days. Around 200 euro for that bout of fun. So we went to bed super pumped about the next day and fell asleep to the sounds of barking street dogs and the simpsons.
Chapter Two: The Sweetness
Woke up this morning, boiling hot, had to figure out the air conditioning... That beat the alarm by two hours... But an early start meant dibs on the good stuff at the five euro breakfast buffet next door. With bacon in our stomachs we tried to figure out a map of the metro, but unfortunately the greek alphabet is confusing. So we just headed down to Larissa station with some scattered directions from a chimney of an israeli fella, hopped on the red line and 80 cents later we were in historical Athens, which was insanely cool. Imagine Disneyland with insane historical sites instead of rides. Pretty rad. For those of you who haven't been to disneyland, go. Or better yet go to Athens, it's cooler. The Acropolis was amazing, a mighty collection of temples atop a wall of easily 33 metres. Beautiful. Street venders offered wicked bargains, and delicious gyros cost only one point six euro. Money goes far in Athens. Oh and by the way, there really is not that much pollution here, so don't believe people who say it's gross! Also, the men aren't as piggish as they are reputed to be. And forest fires? Where? I think that most Athens critics are reading their maps wrong. We'll leave you to ponder that! (oh and somebody tell Jesse to move here, it was tailored exactly to him.)
Peace out, DASH
(PS for 20 euro you can dress like owen wilson.)
We are here for a couple days and then off to Mykonos! We are looking forward to the water, cuz it's HOT! (but really, I'm not complaining)
