Well our final week didn't go exactly to plan after what was without a doubt the most terrifying flight we've been on. When a drunken groups cheers for a little bit of turbulence turns into an eerie silence after what feels like the plane dropping a decent distance, its not an exageration to say our hearts skipped a beat - or ten Topping up the tan was a no go because the first few days in Townsville it was raining and then The Yongala Wreck dive (the only reason we flew back to Australia) was cancelled because of weather conditions. Gutted was not the word, we had been looking forward to the dive for over 4 months and it all went pear shaped, if I was a cryer I would have flled an ocean when we got told it wouldn't happen. We decided on a wee overnight trip to Magnetic Island and then our luck changed ;-) The sun made an appearance and the island was gorgeous, we hopped on and off the bus around different bays and then had a wee trek up the 'Forts' trail. All the Koalas were in hiding from us but the views were great. In the afternoon we went along to say high to the rock wallabys, which turned out freeking awesome. Loads came down from the rocks to see if we had any food but the absolute icing on the cake was that there were two mum and baby wallabys. Its one of the coolest things we've seen away, the wee baby would pop its head out of its pouch slightly and then dart back in if it got a fright. They were really placid most of the time though and we just watched for ages the baby popping in and out and then pulling the pouch wider for its paws to get in or out and got a few glimpses of the wall of the pouch inside. To add to our nature day we went to the famous 'Toad Races' that night. Totally bizarre event but good fun none the less. We bought the virgin frog at the auction but she sucked and not sure if she managed to even cross the finish line lol! I won a pen at the wee quiz mid way because I'm obviously a genius so we did take home a prize. We had been doing couch surfing (someone from the town hosts you and lets you stay at their flat) and on our last night had a bbq and a few games with Steve, the host and Myrium and Valory, other couchsurfers. It was a good wee night, I called it quits after 1am but the bold Mr Hutchison pulled an all nighter to watch the first world cup game at 5.30am ;-)
We are actually at Sydney airport at the moment and will start our journey home to SCOTLAND in a few hours YAAY!! Been such an awesome 6months so back to home to no house, no job, no money, but at least Darrens Neil Young magazine has survived the trip and is returning too.
love you long time xxx
