Aaah the long neglected travel blog...
Since arrival in Australia this little gimmick has taken a whack in the baby-maker, but as I set out on some more travel-like activites in ways of an Aussie Road Trip from Monday, I thought I'd try and get an update out there before it all turns awesome again.
It has been a very mixed couple of months since landing in the Land of 'No worries mate'.
Sydney was very strange over Christmas and New Year. Partly due to the fact that all three of us spent Christmas Day in the sweaty hostel room dying from a range of ailements. Ailements such as; illness, the combo of jet-lag and a previous weeks travelling which totalled up almost 70 hours travel in 6 days plus a possible hangover from Christmas eve to name a few. A Christmas eve that had seen our 2nd gig of the World Tour; Set opener, Ignition (remix) - Wray'vonn & Ben Caramel avec many stage dancers. We were later joined onstage by LewPac for f*** Her Gently. Hilarity ensued.
Apart from that, after taking a few photos and what not, Syndey didn't really phase me at all. Pretty bored MOST of the time. New Years Eve itself was, as imaginable, the highlight.
During an ever-regular game of Ring of Fire, now joined by the Bras', we made new friends with some Kiwi girls who were over in Syndey for the holidays and hit it off instantly.
Megan, Jasmin (jizz-man), Rose and Bridgette. We own at Ring of Fire.
When it was time, we headed to the Harbour via the closed-off streets of Syndey. A proper party atmosphere now building as thousands of people roamed the streets all heading for the world famous NYE Fireworks display. World famous for all the right reasons. The first point of call for the New Year, the marker for the rest of the world to follow over the coming hours and the single greatest display I have ever seen. And I bum Muse.
I can distinctly remember turning to Ben and Lewis, knowing this was a moment, with a look of "We made it babe" we all smiled at each other and embrace, lovingly. Guy love.
Oh yeah Felicity was overcome by the occasion and flaked out a bit. Funny now, but she did lose her camera. Piss.
In our last night in Syndey we went to a Dub night with Skream & Benga. Awesomes, but I sweated my ass.
Melbourne. The target : Get a f***ing job, fast.
Day 1 - Arrive, make a phonecall. Day 2 - Job interview. Day 3 - Training. Day 4 - Door knocking...
"Hey, how're you doing? I'm Dan, i'm one of the new Milkmen in your area with Aussie Farmers. Just calling round to let you know about the free home delivery service that your local Famers are running in the area yadda yadda yadda"
And thats what I've now been doing fot the past 7-8 weeks in Melbourne making me some moneys. Lewis and Ben have had a different experience...
They stayed at Aussie Farmers for 2 days, citing it wasn't for them.
Then they went flyering with some dodgy Irish boys for a day or two in which Lewis was victim of some Hitler-like hate crimes being branded a Jew and asked "Why didn't Hitler finish you off!?" to which Bradley replied "I'm no f***ing jew!" They also got paid like slaves but thats just coincidence.
Then they went to some farm out in the middle of nowhere to pick tomatoes. Cue cotton-picking jokes naturally. Even the boys back home went for those (Steven!). Lasted perhaps 2 days, got paid like slaves.
Then one night I got a text "Dan, we leave tomorrow for Adelaide where we're gonna pick olives" or something along those lines. But this one seems legit, except picking olives is now packing onions. They're gonna work there and come find me so we can all hold hands and play games again :)
So for the past 8 weeks i've been placed back into a routine of much work, little play that has grown pretty tedious. All i've been upto is sleeping, working, getting drunk at weekends and thanks to a Mr. William Wharton and/or Daragh Aherne, i've been getting baked up 'pon de replay. Sorry Mum.
So when Rich, a fellow Farmer, said he was leaving and wanted a travel buddy, I couldn't pass it up. I was made a Trainee Manager for the past two weeks... but I've explained my situation to Laura, my Manager, and theres a job for me if and when I come back, which was nice.
So this is the main reason for the blog-update...
I've been reading Kevin Smith's My Boring-Ass Life and i'm gonna try and do a very frank, very honest daily blog ting for my road trip, for how ever long it will last. Partly cause thats what I was trying to do all along with this, but mostly cause now I will have interesting things to write about, please?
