Unfortunately we did not wake up with enough time to find the office where we needed to go to get on the bus for the Rosslyn tour...it actually worked out to our advantage though. We walked around new town for a little while until we came across a nice place to grab a quick bite to eat, the food wasn't too bad. By the time we finished eating we decided to head back to the New Europe tour meeting point...we were going on a Free tour. The tour started around 1pm and it was very nice...only 9 people on the tour (pretty personal). We walked all around Old Town and the Royal Mile (the long street from Edinburgh Castle down to the Royal Palace. The tour took us through the Grassmarkets (where hangings, prostitution, gambling, and murder used to take place) we saw the place where J.K. Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book and the school that inspired her Hogwarts. We walked through an old cemetary where much paranormal activity is said to have taken place. We were told of stories of how Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was created and several great writers from Scotland...it was a very good tour and our tour guide was very animated so it made it fun.
After the 3+ hour tour we decided to continue walking around a bit and look in some of the Scotish shops on the Royal Mile. It was all very neat but after walking for so long we grew tired (it seems to be a constant trend as of late)...so we stopped at a small restaurant and grabbed a late lunch/early dinner then headed back to the hostel for a quick nap. The nap turned into a 2 hour nap...it was much needed (we're sooo old). After our nap, New Europe was offering a Ghost Tour...so we thought it would be a good idea to go on that! It was. The tour was very nice and we were able to hear about all the darkness that was in Edinburgh's past. (It wasn't exactly what we wanted...we wanted paranormal activity and ghosts showing up...it didn't happen; it was more like a story time). At the end of the tour...we were given a free PINT!!! It was great. They have a beer here called Belevans Best...they compare it to a Guinness...so Danny had to try it. It wasn't bad; but it was a bit bold to compare to Guinness (it was more like a Budweiser with a big head). After our pint we headed back to the hostel to blog and hit the sack!!!
Tomorrow we are going to catch a bus out to Rosslyn Chapel and look at it ourselves instead of going on the tour. Once we get back we're going to go inside Edinburgh Castle and perhaps do a little bit of shopping....and look up family histories. We are going to get some good sleep so we can have a good day tomorrow...hopefully without the need of a nap!! Good Night!!
