So we arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand today from 3 and a half weeks in Australia. First impressions are very good. We spent a few hours walking around Christchurch this afternoon and it was so similar to the UK Cedric started to get upset saying i left the UK to see somethign different.....!!! It is a beautiful city, very chilled and relaxed with a cafe scene and lots of shopping! Tomorrow we are picking up our Spaceship (not a real one http://www.spaceshipsrentals.co.nz/) and continuing our journey around south island for 2 weeks and then w will spend 1 week in North Island.

Our last week in Australia was brilliant. The landscape completely changed as we went up north and become very tropical with so mnay bugs everywhere. It was a relief to arrive in New Zealand and not have to fear them anymore ;.) We stayed in Cairns for one night before taking the Captain Cook Highway past Cairns towards Cape Tribulation. The road ran parrallel to the ocean and it was an amazing drive watching the waves crashing against the rocks beneath you. It turned and wound around many bends before arriving on hour later in Port Douglas a small town situated between Cairns and Daintree/Cape Tribulation. We spent a few hours there had breakfast and Cedric fell in love with an Australian hat which i offered him as a very early birthday present for next year! We continued on to Mossman where there was a beautiful gorge and many people were swimming in the clear waters. We had lunch there and after having completed a walk in the forest continued on to Daintree. The Dsintree river is famous for its crocodiles and everywhere you go you see attention signs warning people about the fact they shouldn't swim in these waters if they want to stay alive..... We took a tour on a boat along the river with a guide who knew the crocs around this area (as well as many other forms of nature such as tree snakes and frogs). He taught us about their habits and more haunting stories about a 5 year old boy who had been eaten by one only a year ago after having run into the river after this dog. it was a very enlightening experience!

The road wound up through dense rainforest as we reached cape tribulation the only place in the world where two world heritage sights meet- the great barrier reef and the rainforest. We stayed here for 1 night and then headed up to Cooktown, about 335km north of Cairns.

In Cooktown we stayed with someone we met on Couchsurfing. Gery was German but had lived in Australia for over 20 years and taught us a lot about this part of Australia but also the history behind the aboriginal culture. Cooktown showed us the real (not touristic) Australia which was greta. It also boasted amazing scenary and we went on many walks around this area over the two days we stayed here.

After heading back to Sydney we spent a night on the town with Adriaan and Esther before taking the plane this morning to New Zealand.

Donc, nous sommes arrivés à Christchurch, Nouvelle-Zélande aujourd'hui à partir de 3 semaines et demie en Australie. Les premières impressions sont très bonnes. Nous avons passé quelques heures de marche autour de Christchurch cet après-midi et il était si semblable à la Cedric Royaume-Uni a commencé à s'énerver en disant j'ai quitté le Royaume-Uni de voir somethign différents .....!!! C'est une belle ville, très frais et détendu avec une scène de café et beaucoup de shopping! Demain, nous ramasser notre vaisseau spatial (pas un vrai celui-http://www.spaceshipsrentals.co.nz/) et continuer notre voyage autour de l'île vers le sud pour 2 semaines et puis w passera 1 semaine dans l'île du Nord.

Notre semaine dernière en Australie a été brillante. Le paysage a complètement changé que nous sommes allés vers le nord et devenir très tropicale avec des bugs afin mnay partout. Ce fut un soulagement d'arriver en Nouvelle-Zélande et ne pas avoir à les craindre plus;.) Nous sommes restés à Cairns pour une nuit avant de prendre la route du capitaine Cook Cairns passé vers Cape Tribulation. La route est parallèle à l'océan et il est un disque étonnant regardant les vagues qui viennent s'écraser contre les rochers dessous de vous. Il se retourna et enroulé autour de nombreux virages avant d'arriver sur-heure plus tard à Port Douglas une petite ville située entre Cairns et Daintree / Cape Tribulation. Nous avons passé quelques heures il y avait le petit déjeuner et Cedric tombé en amour avec un chapeau australien que je lui offris comme cadeau d'anniversaire très tôt pour l'année prochaine! Nous avons continué à Mossman, où il y avait une belle gorge et beaucoup de gens nageaient dans les eaux claires. Nous avons déjeuné là-bas et après avoir terminé une promenade dans la forêt continue à Daintree. La rivière Dsintree est célèbre pour ses crocodiles et partout où vous allez vous voyez des signes d'alerte attention des gens sur le fait qu'ils ne devraient pas se baigner dans ces eaux si elles veulent rester en vie ..... Nous avons pris un tour sur un bateau sur la rivière avec un guide qui connaissait les crocs dans ce domaine (ainsi que de nombreuses autres formes de la nature tels que des serpents et des grenouilles d'arbre). Il nous a appris au sujet de leurs habitudes et des histoires hantent plus sur un garçon de 5 ans qui avait été mangé par un seul il ya un an après avoir couru dans la rivière après ce chien. ce fut une expérience très enrichissante!

La route serpente à travers la forêt tropicale dense que nous sommes parvenus à Cape Tribulation le seul endroit au monde où deux sites du patrimoine mondial de rencontre avec les grande barrière de corail et la forêt tropicale. Nous sommes restés ici pour 1 nuit et s'est ensuite dirigé jusqu'à Cooktown, à environ 335 km au nord de Cairns.

En Cooktown nous sommes restés avec quelqu'un que nous avons rencontrés sur Couchsurfing. Gery était allemande, mais a vécu en Australie pendant plus de 20 ans et nous a enseigné beaucoup de choses sur cette partie de l'Australie mais aussi l'histoire derrière la culture autochtone. Cooktown nous a montré le réel (et non touristique) en Australie qui a été le GRETA. Il peut aussi se vanter étonnant décor et nous sommes allés sur de nombreuses promenades dans ce domaine au cours des deux jours nous sommes restés ici.

Après de retourner à Sydney, nous avons passé une nuit sur la ville avec Adriaan et Esther avant de prendre l'avion ce matin à la Nouvelle-Zélande.
