We spent about 4 days in La Paz. It is quite a nice city for being the capital of Bolivia, although very stressful and exhausting. Unfortunately, our room in the hostel was very noisy, the whole in the window facing the streetside did not help! We also noticed a lot of old people begging on the streets which made us feel quite miserable. One day we wanted to visit a nearby Canon, do some hiking there and we got the advise to take a guide as it is/was not very safe (because of their politial situation and us being tourists). So, we met our guide about 60years old and knew immediately that we will not do much trekking on that day...he was very nice but also quite demanding: we could not go and see the Canon we wanted so went to another one. He waited as we were walking around and we had to be always within his eyesight. Next thing we had to pay him lunch because he got hungry and finally we had to pay all his bus journeys within the city. It was not much for us but we did not know all this "extra" fares before...Other than this experience, Lisi went to do the mountain bike ride down the "death road" and came very exhausted back - I did not do it because I knew already that I won´t like sitting on a bike downhill a narrow, stony road for hours probably bad weather etc. (as it was according to Lisi snowing up there and then raining buckets). We also took our time and went shopping in the numerous souvenir stalls as well as liked to go the markets to have a look around and enjoy some lovely fresh made fruit juices! After 4days we really had enough of La Paz and were looking forward to leave for Copacabana - no, not the Brasilian one, the Bolivian one on Lake Titicaca...;-)) We had a nice bus ride up there and the next day we explored the Isla del Sol. A beautiful Island, reachable by boat. Finally, got to do some hiking, stayed overnight on the north of the Island in a very nice local village and enjoyed ourselves with the many children and animals. They have pigs, donkeys, sheeps, lamas etc running around like mad (pictures will hopefully follow). The view from the Island was fantastic, the salmon trout from the lake delicious and the thunderstrom during the night very scary! On the 2nd day we had to treat ourselves with a nice bottle of wine before catching the boat back to Copacabana...the boat went so slow that we did not even have a chance to feel unwell!
Anyway, now we are back in Copacabana, enjoying our last evening here on Lake Titicaca because tomorrow we are heading for Peru, Arequipa to be precise.
