Evening, didnt really expect to write a blog so soon but had a great couple of days worth documenting. Also, would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a happy new year!
So the last week or so has been crazy! Apart from many drunken nights with some great new people, some cool french guys (french frogs and roast beef), an awesome german couple and some new english friends. The hostel mood has been really high, everyone looking forward to christmas, myself and sarah (my german bunk bed friend) decorated ouR bunk with purple tinsel and lights (much to the despair of some of our other room mates), and ignoring all the mess which is building up around our bed more and more (procrastination is the spice of life). We bought santas hats and had lots of fun running around the hostel acting like total idiots dressing up in stupid clothes and playing around with my fishing rod, and bundling on beds, and teaching french people to say 'ayyy up lad' (which is suprisingly very tricky).
The day before christmas, everyone chipped a tenner in and we bought loads and loads of meat, salad, pasta, potatoes etc and made amazing food in preparation for the bbq the next day, then we went out for hostel night out on xmas eve, which was a slight dissapointment as alot of the bars were closed, but i ended up gatecrashing a chinese christmas midnight mass, and this huge church was full of chinese people singing some chrismas song, and some priest was talking on the microphone and must have said something about me and the whole church turned around and started applauding and smiling, i dont know whether they thought I was their god or something, so i (in my drunken state) starting singing along untill i was dragged away by some friends who thought I was going to get chased by the chinese mafia?! crazy crazy times.
So the next morning I woke up early for work and cleaned the hostel, the manager colin had made us a huge fry up breakfast for everyone and decorated the kitchen. We exchanged gifts and drank champagne (sparkling goon), everyone was so happy and singing xmas songs. I got a random gift of some earrings with two extra holes on the card where the italian girl who gave it to me, had obviously taken the nice earrings off for herself! Pretty funny!
Anyway I had a nice chat with mother, and tor on skype to wish merry christmas, and then we all headed to sandringham beach on the train, with a big trolley of food, there were about 20 of us all together, and some followed later. We had amazing bbq and then went for a swim in the sea, after plenty of gin and tonic.
And the following day, today I was given a free ticket to the ashes cricket test match at Melbourne Cricket Grounds, which was awesome, everyone in the hostel went and we beat australia hands down!! It was a great day in history! Let hope the next days of the test follow just as well! As I was leaving the cricket ground... i happened to bump into LJ and Jordan, some mates from my course at university!! I was so happy to see some really familiar faces from home, and i realised these are the first mates from home I have seen the whole time I have been out here, and strangely enough we had been sat next to jordans brother in the match too! So I went for a meal and drinks with the two of them and jordans family! Amazing ! I didnt even know they were in Melbourne, so i hope to see them lots more before I leave for NZ!
Looking forward to NY now. Best wishes x
