I took a flight to the capital of Laos -Vientiane. Once I landed I took a taxi to the bus station and jumped into a minibus for the four hour journey to Vang Vieng. Thankfully the bus was already nearly full so I didn't have to wait too long for the bus to leave as buses in SEA never leave until they are completely full.
