Day 39- Sat 16th
We checked out of St Kilda Beach House and went down the road to Oslo Hostel. We hadn't heard good things about this hostel but it had a triple room for the same price as we were paying. Before we could check in we went for a wander down Acland St which had lots of nice shops. We bought some lunch and sat in a local park to have a picnic surround by evil seagulls and pigeons eyeing up our food. We checked in at Oslo, it was a really old fashioned building and the décor was from the 70's. Our room was ok but could have done with a clean. At least the shared bathrooms were pretty new. We did a massive amount of laundry and hung it all over our room to dry, was a bit crazy. In the evening we headed for Chapel Street which is known for bars and nightlife. We ended up in a crappy Irish bar that was quite expensive for what it was. We had met some Irish lads from our hostel so I reckon they just needed a taste of home.
Day 40- Sun 17th
We checked out of the Oslo and went for a stroll along the beach, we were a bit hung-over from the night before. We stopped at a café called Beachcomber(the island we were shipwrecked on in Fiji) and waited an hour for beans on toast. I think Gordon Ramsey needed to sort them out. It was really hot today, 35'. We walked around the arts and crafts market that was near the beach, there were some lovely things to buy (if I had any money!) We had booked the next few nights at an apartment so we checked in there in the afternoon. The apartments were amazing compared to what we had been staying in and they were the same price as a ten bed dorm. We had our own kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms. It was just nice to have our own space and to be able to cook dinner in a clean kitchen. We made some nice pasta and spent the rest of the evening in front of the tv.
Day 41-Mon 18th
We shockingly didn't get up today until 2pm! I think we needed a good sleep to recover from the tour, it was very stressful and hard going! Haha. The weather was still nice and hot so we got the tram down to St Kilda beach. The trams are great and easy to use. We sunbathed for a bit, even at 5-6pm it's still very warm. Spent another night making a gourmet meal and watching tv. This is the life.
Day 42- Tues 19th
We spent another day sunbathing on St Kilda Beach, it was a bit scary as there were jellyfish washed up on the beach but I didn't actually see any in the sea. Made dinner and had a few drinks at our apartment before heading to Chapel St. We had heard that Tuesday nights were good for backpackers but Chapel St was deserted. We then got the tram to Fitzroy St and went to a bar called 'Cushion'. It was full of backpackers but the drinks were cheap.
Day 43- Wed 20th
We got up late again today (I'm loving these lie ins) and went by tram into central Melbourne. We had to get to the Neighbour's office to start our tour. The tour bus was full of English people and a few weirdos. The tour took us to the studios where they film most of the scenes and guess who was there? Susan Kennedy! How exciting! Her real name is Jackie Woodburn and she was lovely, we all had pictures with her and she gave us autographs. She was asking about our travels and was exactly the same as her character. Spooky! The bus took us round to Ramsey Street which was much smaller than it looks on tv. I took so many pictures but we weren't allowed on the properties as people live there. We also went to where they film the Erinsborough High scenes. We got home late as we had to find somewhere to book our next few nights. We really don't want to leave our apartment.
