Day 71- Wed 19th
We left Surfer's today, we were getting a little bit bored of it anyway. The journey to Brsisbane didn't take long, it was nice to be back in a city again. We were dropped at the bus station and then we got the free hostel shuttle across the river to the area called West End. We were staying in 'Somewhere to Stay' which was a huge wooden building, quite old, but it was what most of the houses in Australia looked like. We were in a four bed dorm but they put Lisa in another room which was annoying. We got the free shuttle back into the centre of the city, had a walk around and down Queens Street Mall which is the main shopping area. We then got on the free city loop bus which took us to the botanical gardens. It was really pretty and we had a walk around. A university was right next to it and we went into their open art gallery which had some great pieces and a variety of work. We walked through the Southbank area which is next to the river, it's very modern and clean. There was a small lagoon which had fake sand so that people could sunbathe and pretend they were at the beach surrounded by sky scrapers…very weird. We walked past another university which looked like it had amazing facilities, it even had its own arena. We quickly popped into the museum of performing arts to see a free exhibition, someone had made models out of cardboard…again very weird. We got the shuttle back to the hostel, went out in the evening to a great noodle bar. The west end area seems full of bistros and restaurants and is a nice place.
Day 72- Thurs 20th
We had lunch and then got the free shuttle back into the city. Most hostels have free shuttles which saves us so much money on bus tickets. We went to the city museum which was free entry, managed to use all the interactive things that were really meant for the children. We wanted to go to the art gallery but you had to pay and it was almost closing time so we couldn't go. As its Easter weekend it won't be open until we have left Brisbane which is a shame. We made dinner and then had a few drinks at the hostel. The Irish lads who have followed us up the coast are at the hostel so we were talking to them. We went to a local bar but it was very good as far as I could remember, I was slightly tipsy!
Day 73- Fri 21st (Good Friday)
As its Good Friday there isn't a lot open out here, shops and bars are closed. We were nursing hangovers so spent the day watching DVD's and sleeping on the comfy sofas. In the evening we went for a nando's.
