Dan and Lu's Travels
Arrived in Nadi yesterday morning, greeted at the airport by men playing guitars!
Our hostelis nice and the fodis delicious. We've been into town twice now, once on the bus, which was a fabulous old thing, huge and with seemingly only one gear. There are no bus stops, just ring the bell and it stops wherever. Literally door to door. People would get off only 4 metres from when it last stopped! There are no windows as such, just empty spaces where the glass would be and all the schoolkids in various uniforms (very English looking) were hanging out.
Nadi town is unremarkable; just busy with people and concrete. Trying to get cash out of an ATM is an experience though. There are four machines and queues that stretch for two buildings or more from all of them. Its strange, and by the way they were all queueing it was normal. They seem to have a very low maximum withdrawal limit - so everyone in the queue gets a share I suppose. Wierd.
Dan took part in a kava drinking ceremony at the hostel (I didn't want to drink). This is a traditionl ceremony and kava is drunk everywhere in Fiji. It looks like muddy water and is made froma plant which has natural drug in it,so your lips go numb!
