Left Gallup this morning and detoured by way of a close by Walmart to get some things and then stopped at a conveniently located Starbucks for a welcome coffee hit! Made the most of the great free brekky at the Sleep Inn in Amarillo - then set out for a longish drive, hoping to make Albuquerque tonight ready to head north for Monument Valley.We stopped just outside of the city to have a look at "Cadillac Ranch" which is 10 Cadillacs stuck nose first into the red dirt in some guys ranch! After a godawful night, we hit the road early, glad to get away from that little hell hole! The countryside didn't improve much as we passed through some oil and gas fields, and some large, dry looking ranches. We returned to Route 66 at Elk City, hoping to have a look at a Farm and Transport Museum, but everything was shut on Sundays, we realised by the large numbers of cars parked at the churches, that this is a bit of a Bible Belt and everyone goes to chur...

Got ourselves all packed up again, checked out and loaded the Dodge to start our Route 66 Road Trip.
