As the trip to JFK was around 90 minutes by subway, our departure time necessitated a 4.30am wake up. We had scoped our route yesterday and bought tickets as needed, so we were all set.
It turned out, leaving an hour earlier to allow for the unexpected proved to be a fortuitous decision, as a late running subway train threw our plans into chaos. We found ourselves heading past Central Park on a "C" train, when we should have been heading to Queens on an "E" train.. This, combined with a super slow, exceptionally rude, bag check at JFK, had us walking up to the gate and straight on to the plane bound for Hong Kong. Another 30 minutes and we would have missed the flight altogether.
This was to be our longest single flight at 15 hours, plus a further 7.5 hours before finally hitting the ground in Perth. We flew with Cathay Pacific, and although long, we had a pleasant flight.
Now with our first Father - Daughter adventure complete, we can both look back over the blog and re-live the wonderful times we shared together. We had so many funny and exciting times, events and circumstances, it has all melded into one extended journey I will cherish forever.
In time, I hope Lauren will enjoy her travels to far off places around the globe, safe in the knowledge that if Dad could get us there and back in one piece, she can go anywhere her heart desires.
Lauren, if you are fortunate enough to have the option of travel, just say yes, pack your bags and go...
You will only ever regret the trips you don't take!
Love you always, more than you will ever know.
Dad xx
