Damn Blog ! We have arrived in Athens, but I'm writing about the Isle of Capri...
Today we are off to the beautiful Isle of Capri. Having completed this part of our adventure with Dean in 2012, I'm familiar with the island and what to expect. Capri is stunning with its steep cliffs for most of the shoreline, dotted with half a dozen small bays and swimming areas. The 45 minute ferry trip had us on the island about 10.00am. Every bit as busy as I remembered, we shuffled through tourists on the wharf and headed to Antonio's scooter hire, just 100m from Marina Grande. Antonio is a charming elderly Italian polyglot. Having exceptional control of at least 6 languages, he is modest about his skilful transition from one to another without missing a beat.
Scooter sorted, we were off along the steep winding laneways, yielding ever more impressive vistas as we climbed. Dodging oncoming vehicles has become second nature now, with Lauren hardly flinching at the sight of a truck rounding a hairpin bend on the wrong side of the road. Heading to the tip of the island, we arrived at "Faro Beach". Faro is perched, clinging to the base of the cliffs, just above a crystal clear azzure bay. Although busy, this area wasn't as crazy as most other places we have encountered. The short, steep trek to the water had us ready for a dip to cool off. Cleverly, there is a rope and buoys stretched across the sea entrance to the bay, this prevents the huge amount of pleasure craft mooring in the bay. The depth of the bay is difficult to judge with water so clear, you feel you could just reach in and touch the rocks, but they're 10-15m deep… After a swim and a leap off the cliff edge (about 4m high Mum), we relaxed with a beer and snack lunch in the little café just up from the swimming area. Retracing our tracks back to the town of Capri. A little township, full of boutique shops and overrun with tourists, we didn't stay long. There is a cave at sea level on Capri called "Blue Grotto". At low tide, for a fee of 18 euro, the locals will row you inside the cave where everything is illuminated by reflected light from the ocean. Unfortunately, the wait was in excess of 1.5 hours, so maybe next time... Scooting around the coastline, we took the scenic way back to Marina Grande. Returning the scooter, we found a nice cool place for a beer and gelato before heading back to Naples on our tad slow, fast ferry.
We're heading to Athens in the morning, so we have to get things sorted this evening for a relatively early 8.00am departure from home.

Rae Gorgeous views. Was the water warm? It was still a little brisk when Toni and I were in Santorini
