A week has gone since we arrived in Fiji and tonight we're off to Hawaii, so I guess this makes it a good time to update you on the last week.

Well, we arrived in Fiji last Friday not really knowing what to expect and our first impression was that we were suddenly really hot again! This was a nice change from the New Zealand which was getting a little too chilly for us.

So we checked into our hostel called Aquarius and immediately fell in love with it. It's not really a hostel, rather more like a small hotel. It's right on the beach and there is a gorgeous pool and hammocks on the beach not to mention the friendliest staff we've ever met. We were only there for a couple of nights before we got a ferry across to an island called Mana where we were due to stay for a few nights. Along the way the ferry stopped at some amazing looking islands and people were jetted off on speed boats to them and so we were very excited about getting to our destination.

When we arrived at the pier we were greeted by some Fijians playing guitars and singing and so we thought we were going to like this place. We made our way to the end of the pier and were told that our hostel was the first one on the beach and to get to it we would have to walk along the beach with our bags. I should also point out that being the man somehow I got stuck with both my pack pack and Sally's along with my day bag as well and let me tell you trying to carry all that wasn't an easy task on sand. It was only a 5 mins walk but it felt like a life time and by the time I had arrived at the hostel I looked like I had gone for a dip in the sea, but I was still in good spirits as we were on this paradise island.

But before you start to curse and be jealous let me tell you that it all changed. First of all the hostel didn't have our booking but did have a room available so no harm done. Then tried to turn the lights on only to find out that they only turned the electricity on at 5pm. No electricity also meant no fan, so it was like being in an oven! We also had no towels as these were all being washed and even if we did it wouldn't be any use as there was no water because the pump had broken!

But still we thought we could cope, so we put on our swimming gear and headed to the beach which I have to say was stunning. The water was crystal clear and so warm that it felt like being in a warm bath. We spent the afternoon on the beach before going on a walk along the beach before returning for some dinner.

Those of you who know me are well aware that food is very important to me so when I was served a plate full of chicken bones and cartilage which was supposed to be a curry I had enough. That was the final straw and I told Sally that we were to leave in the morning and return to Nadi and stay at our comfy hostel - Aquarius! We then spent the next hour trying to sort out our ferry, hostel on a computer from the 80s with dial-up internet. It's moments like these that you realise how great broadband really is!

Anyway, we didn't get much sleep that night either as the generator that needed to be on to keep the electricity going was right next to our room and sounded like a tractor. When the morning arrived we couldn't contain our excitement about going back to Aquarius.

As soon as we got back to Aquarius we were in the hammocks and relaxing with cocktails. We basically spent the next few days just lazing around and not doing much but on Wednesday night took dinner tour to Robinson Crusoe island, where we were entertained by traditional fire and knives shows. We were also welcomed to the island with a Kava ceremony which was really interesting. Indecently if you don't know Kava is a traditional Fijian drink and is slightly narcotic. It tastes really weird and looks like dirty/muddy water.

The next day we headed into the town centre and had a bit of a walk around before going back to our hammocks and cocktails.

So that brings me up-to-date. We're just relaxing in our hostel until tonight when we've got to catch our flight to Hawaii for another week of relaxing in the sun.
