After a stressful few weeks, ensuring we got all of our jobs done, DABUS packed and saying our farewells to family and friends, we finally hit the road on Thursday 23rd May 2019.
In convoy with DABUS2 and Fred, we headed towards Mansfield. It is nice to have the wheels in motion once again. At Maindample we parted ways with Fred, who headed to Mansfield to catch up with friends, and our plan was to camp the night at Stringybark Creek. The day had gotten away from us and we wanted to get into Winton Raceway fairly early the following day, so we changed our mind and free camped at Reef Hill State Park, near Benalla.
We had the camp to ourselves but after cooking dinner outside, we were inside enjoying the heat off our new diesel heater.
Early start on Friday morning, we headed into Benalla to top up with Al's Pepsi, then onto the raceway.
Last year we enjoyed the Supercars at Winton with Fred, so this year decided to invite a few other family members. Communication between us all was set up on messenger, with the group being called "Winton Wanderers"
The "Winton Wanderers" consisted of Fred, Mez & Tim (Lorelle's sister and brother-in-law), Lu & Andrew (Lorelle's sister-in-law & brother-in-law) and us.
Lu and Andrew had arrived the previous night and slowly the other parties arrived and set up in a 'U' formation. Heaps of food, drinks and great company were had, whilst enjoying the Supercars. The weather was chilly with rain mainly falling during the night; the campfires were a blaze for both cooking and warmth.
A fantastic weekend was had by us, to start our 2019 travel
