A taxi was caught from the Singapore harbour to our accomodation at The Holiday Inn Atrium. Once settled into our rooms, we caught a bus to Bugis Street and took the wrong bus. We eventually found it and had lunch with the locals before checking out the many stalls. Dinner was had in Chinatown were we caught up with another couple from the cruise, who joined us for dinner. Afterwards we wandered around Chinatown before catching a bus back to the hotel.
The following morning we headed to the Gardens by the Bay, which is absolutely stunning. We then went to Marina Sands to head up to a bar and have drinks and check out the view. Alan had on a singlet, so off we went in search of a top to buy. Prior to this we said goodbye to Keith & Wendy and were going to head back to the hotel. But a t-shirt was sourced and up we went to the 57th floor, we didn't go into the bar but got to enjoy the views and get some great photos.
We ventured back to Chinatown for lunch before heading back to the hotel to catch up on phone calls to family back home. After meeting Keith & Wendy in the lobby we headed off to Clarke Quey for a Riverboat Cruise, which was stunning. Dinner was back at Chinatown before calling it a day.
In the morning we went in search for a IT place that had been recommended to Keith. This emporium was amazing, as it was 5 floors of a shopping complex all selling IT stuff.
Our next stop was at the famous Raffles Hotel, a colonial-style luxury hotel in Singapore opened back in 1887.
It has recently been reopened, and is still undergoing, a massive restoration. We enjoyed drinks in the courtyard.
Back to the hotel to collect our luggage and off the the Changi Airport. Once the luggage was checked in we went off in search of the new Jewel. the Jewel is a newly opened nature-themed entertainment and retail complex on the landside of Changi Airport. Linked to three of its passenger terminals, the centrepiece is the world's tallest indoor waterfall named the Rain Vortex which is surronded by a terraced forest setting. We arrived just in time to see the sound and light show which was a spectacular sight.
Back at the terminal we found the staff cantine and enjoyed a nice cheap dinner before heading to the gate for our departure back to Darwin.
Not only did we have the best time on the cruise, Singapore was a delight to explore before heading back to Darwin.
