Al's adventures
hi all. left la paz on the 28 for uyuni. oh my god 12hrs of hell on a local bus!! the roads are really bad in bolivia. omly 5% are tarmac! tryed to sleep, but was impossible. arrived in uyuni at 3.30am to find that the tour had not booked us a hostel and it was freezing cold. luckly after 3 attempts we got booked in. straight to sleep!! next morning i woke at 9.30,we was leaving to start our tour at 10.30 off to see the salt flats. absolutely amazing!! 12,000 sqm in diameter and 3800ft above sea level. they dont use machines to gather the salt either,it all done by hand!! they can;t afford the machines!! that took most of the day up. the rest was travelling across country to where we were staying. a little town in the middle of no where called san juan. had dinner and was in bed by 8pm!! next morning woke at 7 and was going to have a shower, but no water!! even the toilet you had to pour water down it to flush!! so had a wash in a bucket!! set of at 8 to see some lagoons with flamingos and some volcano,s. it was good but by the end of the day i was all mountained out!! when we got to the last lagoon we had to pay! which we was;nt told by the tour rep. so had a bit of a winge but had to pay it anyway. also this is where we stayed aswell. more basic accomerdation and food, but hey its all part of the experience!! i think i was in bed that night at8.30!! wow. this was the last day. we was up at 5.00am!! with no electricity to get ready, so straight away it was;nt a good start plus the guy next to me had kepted me awake with his snoring! sounded a bit like kaffa from work!!! got out side and it was freezing, about -10! never been so cold in my life. even the 4wd had ice on the windows inside!! we looked at some geysers, which is like steam being blown out of the ground. got out took a photo, got back in to cold!! next was the hot springs. they were cool especially being so cold. had a little paddle. apparently 28c. hot anyway. some people went all the way in,i thought nooo you still got to get out in the cold!! after we had breakfast, then we got dropped off at the bolivian, chilean border where we got transfered to chile. wow what a difference. its so hot and i like hot!! stayed in a little town called san pedro. quiet but cool. yesterday went on a 40km bike ride and for a swim at the local swimming pool. not what i expected but got in anyway as i was so hot. run out of money, san pedro has no atms, so we had to get a bus 1hr away to calama just to get some money!! had to do it to pay for our room and our laundry!! heading to santiago tonight 22hrs get there tomorrow. bye for now al
