And we have arrived! ...Finally!
Orlando, Florida
What a journey!! Pick ups started 4 and a half hours before our flight to Sydney, which was almost an hour late leaving Perth. That made for a 20 minute layover during which time we had to change from the domestic to international terminal and pass through immigration! And we weren't the only ones. Luckily, the plane that was going to take us to Honolulu got delayed coming in so we managed to get about 40 minutes or so, although this then made me stress about making the connection in Honolulu!
We remained incident free to Honolulu - and then Sean's bag didn't turn up on the carousel...hahahaha!! A very helpful airport staff member took all the details and then managed to catch us as we tried to find the check in area - the bag was still in Sydney! Oops! Flights to Los Angeles and Atlanta followed, before reaching our final stop - Orlando.
We arrived at our Disney hotel at 10am and luckily a couple of the rooms were ready so we were able to shower and refresh before heading out to Downtown Disney for lunch. The first place we came across was Rainforest Cafe, with animatronic elephants and gorillas providing some entertainment - not enough for the younger ones of our party, almost falling asleep in their lunch!
After a quick wander around and not much purchased, we headed back to the hotel, and some of us decided we were feeling good enough to head to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party! Tess, Siobhan, Emma, Renae & Chelsey headed to the Magic Kingdom for our first glimpse of DIsney. We spent the evening meeting princesses and exploring the rides. Renae's response to The Barnstormer, the kids roller coaster, was 'That was awesome!' so Emma and I decided to up the ante and took her on Space Mountain. There was just gobsmacked terror on her face the entire time...and for a couple of minutes after, before she declared it was 'Amazing!'.
We watched the Wishes fireworks over Cinderella's Castle and cannot even begin to describe it - you'll have to all come one day to see it for yourself! We headed back at around 11:30pm - pretty much one of the longest days ever, not actually sleeping in a bed for 50 hours!
