Bourgogne
Well I decided I would have to take the plunge at some point and drive on the right (wrong side of the road) or I just never will so as we left Paris I drove down towards the wine producing region of France. We decided after 3 hours of driving we would stop at a town just outside of Auxierre called Vermenton and we found a lovely campsite right next to the river.
Vermenton was a very quiet French village so we walked all round for a couple of hours and then bought a locally produced bottle of Red wine which went down a treat with dinner. The roof tent over looked the river and laying in bed that evening looking out we saw an otter swim past which was very cool.
Leaving Vermenton we drove just a short while down the road to a town called Avallon which has a lot of history and beautiful surroundings it was also where we bought a lovely fresh French loaf, pain aux raisins and cheese stick all for 3 euros at a local bakery (yum). It was a beautiful sunny day so we decided to make up some miles and so drove all the way down to Lake Geneva but on the French side so Lake Leman to the French so after 3 hours each of driving we arrived and it was well worth it.
Campsite just off the lake for 14 euros and we decided we would have a no drive day the next day and appreciate the lake.
The next day we took a walk alone the lake to the small town of Evian (yes where the bottled water comes from) and a stunning little place. You can take a passenger ferry from the French side to the Swiss side of the lake but it cost 40 Euros return and so instead decided to go for a swim in the lake and admire the beauty of the mountains and Switzerland from inside the freezing cold lake itself. Wow the water was cold so much so snorkelling was difficult as your breathing rate was to fast.
Lake Geneva at night was stunning especially with a homemade cup of hot chocolate.
Saturday we drove from the Lake up through the mountains to Chamonix. I started out driving but then it poured with rain and contending with driving on the wrong side of the road, the crazy French drivers and steep mountain roads gave the driving up to Jonny.
Chamonix is stunning the sun was shinning, the blue glacial stream running and snow on the peaks of the high mountains. The child like streak in me came out and decided to have a ride on the alpine toboggan you got it Jonny and I went on the Chamonix luge with all the small children.
The sun was still shinning so we decided to walk the 2 and a half hour climb up the the Mer De Glaz glacier which was hard work off solid up hill and I think we may have been early season as the top part of the track was still in snow and we had trainers on but we made it and it was worth it very stunning.
SUNDAY THE 20TH MAY WE LEFT FRANCE FOR ITALY THROUGH THE MONT BLANC TUNNEL SO THAT'S IT FROM FRANCE MORE SOON ON THE ADVENTURES THROUGH ITALY.
