We it's been a long few days. On the 8th we had a flight for 9.50am to Salt Lake City from Dallas. We Dallas had a huge electrical thunder storm early hours of the morning and by the time we got to the airport for our flights they had been cancelled. Nothing going out and nothing landing coming in. They put us on a flight to Phoenix then onto Salt Lake. But then that got cancelled too. Next was flight to Denver then Salt Lake....yep cancelled too ..... by this time we have been to 3 different gates and walked around for hours. Finally we get booked onto a direct flight to Salt Lake city for 3.15pm. It get delayed till 5.15pm and we finally leave the tarmac at 6pm !! We are stuffed. We arrive and have only 2 of our 4 bags. So get the rent a car and find a hotel and by 10pm we are finally settled in and bag report done.
Our last 2 bags get delivered around 8am next day to our hotel. We decide to stay a couple hours longer in our 2 bedroom suite ...it has a washer and dryer full kitchen etc. so get some washing done before we leave.
Off we go and leave a wet Salt Lake City. Wanted to stay and have a look around but a whole day wasted at the airport put paid to that
So we drive to Moab which takes about 3.5 hours. We find a hotel and get some dinner at a great place called The Moab Dinner. Good food and good prices. We decide to go to Arches after breakfast ...Well we all slept in had a late breaky and finally left for Arches about 10am this morning. Amazing how much you can fit in a day !!
Arches National Park is the most beautiful amazing awe inspiring place. So much to see and treks you can do. We did one for about an hour that went up and down but it was so worth it. We all enjoyed the workout too !! We did the rest of Arches by car and stopped often to get out take more pictures and breath in the pure fresh air and sights. Loved it and would have been happy to spend the rest of the day but we lost about a half day and so decide to get back on the road.
Goodbye Arches and hello to another amazing drive. This time it's only a short 2 hours to our next park.....Mesa Verde. We cross into Colorado....oh yeah the views here as we drive are storybook.
Mesa Verde is a wonderful winding mountain range. As you drive you get views almost 360 in some places and so high up you can see for a hundred miles or more. Absolutley breathtaking for all. Mesa Verde is very special . Here we have come to see the ruins of where the Pueblaloans (ancient Indian peoples) lived. Amazing how they built their villages into the sides and under the overhang of the enormous mountains. The ruins are dated from 500AD till they moved on in 1300 AD. They lived in the area fro 7-800 years. Amazing. I must admit that I myself enjoyed the views and the drive up and down more than anything from today Jess didn't really enjoy the drive as much a bit freaked out with the winding high roads lol....
Well that about it all up to date now. We are staying tonight in nice place in Cortez Colorado. Nice little town and tomorrow we will leave early because we have about a 3-4 hour drive to Monument Valley.
So goodnight all and hope all the mum's had a great day !!! xxxx A R J J
